A full-service dining restaurant located at the top (15th floor) of the Contemporary Resort’s tower, formerly the Top of the World restaurant. The California Grill offers views of the Magic Kingdom, the Seven Seas Lagoon, Bay Lake, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, and Disney’s Polynesian Resort. In addition, it offers a view of the Magic Kingdom’s fireworks shows.
Ever since I was a child and an episode of The Wonderful world of Disney that either had a segment of simply an ad for what was the then the Top of the world Restaurant, I want to have dinner here. Finally at the age of 47 I got to make that dream come true. The best part is I got to take my entire family, even my 7 year old. I scheduled dinner so we could be out on the walkway for Wishes, Disney’s Magic Kingdom fireworks show. The walkway has speakers so you can hear the music with the fireworks. Absolutely this will be one of my fondest moments with my children.
So, on the food. We started with appetizers of mussels, flatbread Coppola and a California sushi (which meant it was cooked) all appetizers were delicious and abundant. Even the pickiest of my children said they would order the sushi again and that really does say something. I ordered the beef tenderloin on a risotto base and it was fantastic. Easily one of the best cuts of beef I have ever had. Our youngest had the pizza from the children’s menu and true to Disney form it was perfect for a 7 year old.
When we checked in on the 2nd floor, I had mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary that night. When we got to our seat it was decorated with little Mickey confetti, then at the end my wife and I got a wonderful desert saying congratulations.
It is expensive, but if I get the chance, I will do it again in a heartbeat.
