Continuing my beers of Texas series this week I am trying Orange Show from Saint Arnold Brewing Company in Houston Texas. Orange Show is a blonde ale brewed with almost 2,300 pounds of blood oranges. These are puréed and for each batch. This works out to about half-pound of purée per gallon of beer.
A strong citrus aroma comes from adding the purée during fermentation and the Centennial and Citra hops. The combination of sweet and slightly tart flavors make it a balanced, light bodied beer. Nearly clear pale gold with a short, frothy head of white foam and rings of thin lace. For taste Orange Show is light with a refreshing citrus twang and a crispy bitter and orange rind finish. For mouthfeel, you get a light body with moderate but soft carbonation. Overall, this beer is light and easy drinking blonde ale with nice citrus notes. This beer goes down smooth and will be a fantastic beer for a hot summer day.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this beer is donated to the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art to promote arts education in Houston.
