As I was looking for the next beer to write about, I came across a 12 pack from Tupps Brewery.  This twelve-pack had three cans of four different beers from Tupps.  National Standard is the first of those I tried.

The Pour

Poured from a twelve-ounce can into a large beer mug. National Standard pours a hazy golden yellow and forms a small bright white head.  The aroma is very light to the nose.  Light citrus andA can of National Standard from Tupps Brewery is next to a pint glass filled with a clear golden beer with a thin head floating on top. light hoppy hints are all that float to the nose.

The Taste of National Standard

National Standard has a light taste, a little creamier than a light beer.  Grass and grain dominate the light taste.  The mouthfeel is light, smooth, and creamy.  This is really my favorite aspect of this beer.

Brewers Description of National Standard

“Introducing National Standard, our Light American Ale just in time for the hot summer approaching. This beer is light, crisp and crush-able. This is your new go-to summer beer for the lake, the pool, the BBQ, the dinner parties, the.. you get the point!”

The Brewery

Tupps Brewery states “We believe beer is the perfect blend of Art and Science” The brewers start with the art of beer and then bring in the science to create unique flavors of beer for their fans.

This was a hard review to write.  I wanted to like this beer so much because of the mouthfeel.  That is really nice.  The problem is the taste and aroma are not there to back it up.  Both of those elements are so light they are unremarkable.   I have no doubt that on a hot summer day, this really is a crushable beer.  It would be easy to put down a few and being so light in flavor and easy in the mouth National Standard would be fairly refreshing.  I really think there are better choices for refreshing summer bears out there.
