This week I review Salted Caramel Temptress from Lakewood Brewing. A few weeks ago I reviewed another of the Temptress series from Lakewood Peanut Butter Temptress. That one was great.
Poured into a pint glass from a twelve-ounce bottle. Salted Caramel Temptress pours a deep brown color with a one-finger head of tan-colored foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a little bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. The aroma of the brew is heavy of a roasted malt smell mixed with aromas of chocolate and vanilla. Along with these smells comes a decent showing of a sea salt caramel sweetness and a touch of coffee. Overall the aroma is something akin to a salted caramel latte.
The taste begins with a sweet roasted malt flavor with a big showing of caramel and molasses sweetness as well as a nice roast flavor with notes of cocoa and some coffee. While the sea salt is very light upfront, it gets more and more potent as the taste profile moves forward with the caramel becoming more and more pronounced as well. Some other milk-like flavors also develop as the taste advances combining with the coffee and the roast to produce a flavor like a latte. A touch of nut and herb comes at the end, along with a little bit of warming alcohol, leaving one with a dark and sweet salted caramel taste to linger on the tongue.
The body of the brew is rather thick and creamy with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the rich, sweet, salted caramel, and roast malt taste of the brew the feel is great and makes for a nice slow sipper overall.
Brewers Description of Salted Caramel Temptress
“Gather with friends around the fire and warm up with this decadent treat. We paired our Temptress with the toasty sweetness of creamy caramel, balanced with a touch of sea salt. It’s a gourmet glass of gooey goodness.”
The Temptress Series
Lakewood Brewing has a series of four brews in this series. I really need to find the rest of these beers and try them. In addition to Salted Carmel Tempteress the produce:
Double chocolate Temptress, Peanut Butter Temptress, and French Quarter Tremptress.
Opinion of Salted Caramel Temptress
A nice salted caramel stout, with a coffee-salted candy bar style taste. Quite robust and flavorful. I am not sure what I would pair this one with. It is really a dessert by itself
By the Numbers
IBU Not listed, but close to zero.
